CONFERENCE TO EXPLORE HISTORICAL RESPONSES TO TRAUMA IN THE CHURCH
The theme of the 2019 Tri-History Conference is “Trauma and Survival in the Contemporary Church: Historical, Archival, and Missional Responses.” The conference, co-sponsored by three historical organizations of the Episcopal Church, will be held June 18-21 in Toronto, Canada. The conference includes over 30 papers and presentations on the conference theme, times of worship including the Holy Eucharist with the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, presiding, a Healey Willan-themed concert at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Toronto, a visit to the Reserve of the Six Nations, the Mohawk Institute, HM’s Chapel Royal of the Mohawks, and the Woodlands Cultural Centre, as well as organizational meetings and networking opportunities with historians and archivists. Also featured is Keynote Speaker Prof. Eric Taylor Woods of the University of East London, UK, author of A Cultural Sociology of Anglican Mission and the Indian Residential Schools in Canada: The Long Road to Apology.
The Tri-History Conference is held every three years to examine the particular heritage of the Episcopal Church, its antecedents and the other churches of the Anglican Communion. It is co-sponsored by the Episcopal Women's History Project (EWHP), Historical Society of the Episcopal Church (HSEC), and National Episcopal Historians and Archivists (NEHA). Additional support for the 2019 conference is provided by the Anglican Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Church Historical Society.
The conference site is Trinity College and Wycliffe College in the University of Toronto. Hosting the conference are the college’s Faculty of Divinity and the Canadian Church Historical Society in cooperation with the General Synod Archives of the Anglican Church of Canada. As two of the most important hubs of theological education and training for ministry in Canada, members of the ecumenical Toronto School of Theology, Trinity and Wycliffe represent the breadth of the Anglican tradition, an ideal location for welcoming friends and colleagues from United States of America, and beyond.
Registration may be made for the entire conference or specific days. For complete conference information and to register, visit trihistory.org/2019.
